Amid relentless rainfall that has led to widespread flooding, the Hyderabad District Collector, Anudeep Durishetty, has taken proactive measures to protect residents in low-lying areas. He has directed officials to keep residents alert and to evacuate them to relief camps if necessary. During an inspection near the Jiyaguda area, he emphasized the importance of monitoring water levels in lakes, ponds, and reservoirs, particularly Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar, where gates may be opened to release excess water.

To prevent further loss of life and damage to property, the district administration is on high alert. Meanwhile, the Cyberabad Police have urged IT companies to facilitate work-from-home arrangements for employees, minimizing the risks associated with commuting during the heavy rainfall. Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), D Joel Davis, stated that this measure would also help reduce traffic congestion and ensure that emergency services are not hindered.

The heavy downpour has already claimed nine lives in Telangana, with more rainfall expected. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts in Telangana, including Adilabad, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, and Mahabubnagar, where very heavy to extremely heavy rain is anticipated.

The continuous rainfall is attributed to a depression over the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts, which crossed near Kalingapatnam early Sunday morning, according to IMD officials. The situation remains critical, with more rain expected in parts of Telangana and neighboring Andhra Pradesh.
