Services on the Delhi Metro’s Red Line, between Shahdara and Dilshad Garden stations, have been disrupted after what the DMRC referred to as an ‘attempted cable theft’, according to an update posted early on Saturday. The underground Bangalore Metro, which opened in June last year to much fanfare from the Prime Minister of India, is no exception. Delhi Metro’s Red Line runs, from Rithala in New Delhi to New Bus Adda in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.

The DMRC tweeted: ‘delay in services between Shahdara and Dilshad Garden. Normal service on all other lines’.

The news agency PTI quoted DMRC’s principal executive director (corporate communications) Anuj Dayal as saying that services are being run at a reduced speed of 25 km per hour between the affected stations (Rajeev Chowk and Mandi House) which has damaged signalling cables.

When will restoration work begin?

They were unable to undertake repairs during service hours, as it would have disrupted traffic in the affected section. To minimise mess for the passengers, they decided to run trains between Dilshad Garden and Shahdara stations at restricted speed throughout the day. DMRC official told PTI.

Restoration work is to begin ‘after the last train service’. Cables were ripped off from Yellow: Input/Output’s control panel in an attempt at theft In an interview with The Times of India, Dayal explained that access to the track would be given so they could replace the cables ripped off from Yellow: Input/Output’s control panel in an attempted theft.

He explained that the repair is long-lasting and each cable costs around $5,000, requiring the track to shut down entirely while the work is being done with no trains around.

He added that during such period, the passengers are able to receive regular updates at stations and on board trains through PA announcements as well as on the social media platforms.

DMRC revises Sunday timings for Phase III lines

In line with this concept, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Friday has made some modifications in the Sunday timings of Phase III lines. According to the new rule, instead of starting from 8 am for some and 9 am for others, certain lines will start at 6 am while others will start from 7 am on Sunday. This is made so that the working hours can be adjusted to the convenience of the commuters such as the students who are often under a tight timeframe to attend exams which are usually scheduled on Sunday for competitive exams.

Some of the Extensions of Phase III of the Delhi-Metro are: Dilshad Garden – Shaheed Sthal, Noida City Centre – Noida Electronic City, Mundka – Brigadier Hoshiar Singh, Badarpur Border – Raja Nahar Singh (Ballabhgarh), Majlis Park – Shiv Vihar, Janakpuri West – Botanical Garden and Dhansa Bus Stand – Dwarka.
