The parents of the junior doctor from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, who was allegedly raped and murdered on August 9, have come forward with claims that they were coerced into making a video statement denying that Kolkata Police had offered them money. This statement contradicts their earlier claim, made just a day prior, where they asserted that a senior IPS officer had indeed offered them money.

The controversy deepened when the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) released a video in which the parents appeared to say that no money was offered by the police. However, on Thursday, the victim's father told the media that they were forced into making that statement on camera, with the police allegedly warning them that justice would be delayed if they did not comply.

The father also detailed how an IPS officer had presented a bundle of money, saying it might be needed, though no conditions were attached. Despite the pressure, he refused the offer, citing the pain his daughter endured. The incident has led to accusations from the TMC against the opposition of engaging in "vulture politics." The Kolkata Police have not commented on the matter.
