News:
Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Andhra Pradesh, causing severe flooding, landslides, and significant disruption to normal life. Neighboring Telangana is also on high alert as the region braces for more rainfall due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal.
In Andhra Pradesh, the relentless downpour has led to the deaths of at least eight people in various rain-related incidents. Among the casualties, five people were killed in landslides in Mogalrajapuram, Vijayawada, where large boulders fell on two houses due to the heavy rain. In Guntur district, a teacher and two students lost their lives when their car was swept away while crossing a flooded stream.
The most affected areas in Andhra Pradesh include Vijayawada, Machilipatnam, Gudivada, Kaikaluru, Narasapuram, Amaravati, Mangalagiri, Nandigama, and Bhimavaram. The state has seen widespread inundation, with roads submerged and normal life severely disrupted.
Rescue operations are in full swing, with over 80 people already rescued from flood-affected areas. The state and national disaster relief forces, along with the police, are working tirelessly to assist those in need. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has canceled all his scheduled programs to focus on monitoring the situation. He has directed the immediate release of Rs 3 crore to each district for relief measures.
The heavy rain has also disrupted train services on the Vijayawada-Warangal route. Overflowing streams have submerged tracks near Vijayawada and Tandalapusalapalli, leading to the suspension of train movements on the Vijayawada-Khammam and Warangal-Khammam routes. Additionally, waterlogging near Kesamudram railway station has forced railway authorities to halt trains at nearby stations.
The Central Water Commission (CWC) has warned that rivers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are expected to swell over the next two days. In response, the Andhra Pradesh government has established a state-level control room to coordinate rescue efforts. The control room, in collaboration with disaster management agencies and the health department, will be operational until September 3. Citizens can contact the control room at +919032384168 for emergency medical services.
