In the Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh, it has been raining heavily for the last 10 hours, creating a pond-like situation everywhere. Due to the rising water levels in rivers and streams, many villages have become isolated, and their connection to the headquarters has been cut off. The Murana River, after 20 years, has once again taken a fierce form. Additionally, the governor's visit had to be canceled for the second day due to the rain.

Continuous rain has caused water to enter homes and shops in several areas of the city. People have faced difficulties as drain water has flooded their homes. The rain, which began around 10 PM last night, is still ongoing. As a precaution, police forces have been deployed near the river. Due to the overflowing water at key points, all movement has come to a halt. The collector has declared a holiday for schools due to the rain.

Water Overflows Bridge After Two Decades

The Pali Road, connecting Shahdol to Umaria and located near the All India Radio station, has seen the Murana River flow over the bridge for the first time in two decades. The river is in a fierce state, flowing about seven feet above the bridge, halting all movement. Local resident Yunus Khan stated that the bridge was last closed two decades ago. The heavy rain on Friday night caused the road to be blocked since early Saturday morning. This route is the main road connecting Shahdol with Pali and Umaria. Large crowds have gathered to witness the overflowing river.

Singapore Road Closed Due to Flooding

The Panda stream on Singapore Road has been flowing rapidly since last night, blocking the Shahdol-Pandaria route. This road connects to Raipur in Chhattisgarh, but traffic has been completely stopped. Police forces have been deployed on both sides, and people are being prevented from crossing.

Bandhavgarh Route Closed

The Murana River in Koni is also overflowing, closing the main route from Shahdol to Bandhavgarh. The route, which passes through Bandhavgarh to reach Manpur, has been shut down since last night due to heavy rain. This river defines the boundary between Shahdol and Umaria districts. The police from both districts have set up blockades to stop movement. A new bridge is under construction here, but the old bridge has been closed for several hours. Although people were able to walk across the new bridge, it has now also been submerged, cutting off all access and leaving hundreds of villages disconnected from the headquarters.

People Risking Their Lives to Watch the River

Despite the rivers and streams being flooded, people are standing in the water, risking their lives to watch the flowing river. Small children are also among them, but people are refusing to heed warnings. During this time, there was no police presence in the area.

Long Traffic Jams on Both Sides of Rivers

Due to the overflowing rivers and streams, traffic has been blocked, leading to long lines of vehicles on both sides. People are waiting for the water to recede from the bridge so they can head home.

Water Floods Housing Board Colony

In the city’s Housing Board Colony, many homes have been flooded. Since last night, people have been trying to pump water out of their homes. The municipality recently built a drain, but due to technical flaws, rainwater is not flowing into the drain and is instead entering people’s homes.

Holiday Declared for School Children

Due to the heavy rain since last night, the collector has declared a holiday for all government and private schools in the district for grades one through eight. Collector Kedar Singh issued the order, stating that the holiday is declared in light of the excessive rain. During this time, all teachers are expected to report to school for official work.
