A disturbing video has surfaced showing an elderly man being assaulted by fellow passengers on a train in Maharashtra's Nashik district. The assault was reportedly fueled by the suspicion that the man was carrying beef. The incident, which occurred near Igatpuri on the Dhule Express earlier this week, has sparked widespread outrage after being shared on social media.
The video, which went viral, was shared by AIMIM MP Imtiaz Jaleel, who criticized the government and police for their inaction against such incidents. The footage shows several people surrounding the elderly man, identified as Haji Ashraf Munyar, a resident of Jalgaon district, who was traveling to his daughter's house in Kalyan. The group can be seen threatening and assaulting him as he pleads, repeatedly stating that the meat in question was goat meat, not beef.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Thane has registered an FIR against more than five passengers involved in the assault. Although the GRP has identified some of the individuals responsible, no arrests have been made as of yet.
"We have taken cognisance of the video and identified the victim. Some of the people involved in the attack have also been identified, and a probe is on," a GRP official said.

In response to the incident, MP Imtiaz Jaleel called for action against the growing trend of such assaults, urging secular Indians to unite against these forces. "We just can't be mute spectators. It's high time we, all secular Indians, should come together to defeat these forces," he tweeted. Jaleel also criticized the government and police for turning a blind eye to these acts of violence, calling for a more active response from the community to counter such incidents.
