On Wednesday, local residents vandalized the house of Akshay Shinde, the man accused of abusing two minor girls at a school in Badlapur, Maharashtra.
Locals went on a rampage at Akshay Shinde's house, breaking glass, smashing electronic appliances, and ruining the flat.
Shinde was produced before a magistrate at Kalyan in Thane district amid elaborate security arrangements earlier in the day.
Akshay Shinde, who was working as a sweeper at the school, is accused of sexually abusing two girls, both aged four, in the school's restroom. One of the girls told her parents about the incident last week. Police arrested the accused on August 17 after the incident came to light.
There has been a statewide stir as protesters have vandalized public property and attacked authorities, causing a statewide stir. In connection with protests that erupted earlier in the day in Badlapur, 500 protesters were arrested and 72 were taken into custody.
A senior official said the arrested individuals face charges related to rioting, vandalism, and assaulting public officials.
On Wednesday, internet services were suspended in the town due to the massive protests, while most schools remained closed.
A total of 17 city police officers and eight railway cops were injured during the protests at the railway station and elsewhere in Badlapur.
To maintain law and order in the town, an additional police force has been deployed.
Thousands of protesters blocked railway tracks at Badlapur station and stormed a local school building, forcing police to cane-charge them.
