Famous Indian-Origin Doctor Shot Dead In US’ Alabama
An Indian-trained physician was shot dead on Friday in an incident which has sparked widespread condemnation in the US city of Tuscaloosa in the southern state of Alabama. Dr Ramesh Peramsetty whose hospitals spread across the state, lost his life on the spot.
Image Credit - Great AndhraA native of the Tirupati district of the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, he had founded and directed the Crimson Care Network, a loose association of local doctors. He had also practised medicine in Tuscaloosa as a physician.
The Crimson Care Network Team also mourned the death of the physician and said it was going to continue the legacy of Perasetty. In a Facebook post, Team Crimson Care said: All are aware of this moment, as we have been informed of the loss of Dr Ramesh Peramsetty. Peramsetty family request us for a moment of privacy in grieving his loss. They have been blessed with a tremendous out pour of love and faith. We vow to continue to honour him as he would want us to. Thank you.

Who was Doctor Peramsetty?
On his Wedmed webpage, he is identified as having graduated from Sri Venkateswara Medical College in 1986 and practiced 38 years of medical care. His specialties were listed as EMERGENCY MEDICINE (38 Yrs) and FAMILY MEDICINE (38 Yrs), and he was most recently on staff in Tuscaloosa, Alabama but was also practiced in four other locations. He was affiliated with The Regional Medical Center. He held a Diploma in Child Health (DCH).
Aside from his medical practice, he reportedly donated Rs 14 lakh ($200,000) to Menakuru High School in Andhra Pradesh, where he was a student, and helped build a Sai temple in the village.

In some local reports (one of them from Tuscaloosa) another street was named after him since his medical work played such a pivotal role in the history of this neighbourhood.When Covid hit India, Dr Peramsetty played a pivotal role once again in addressing the crisis. He received several awards for his selfless services. He died in 2022, survived by his wife (also a physician), his two sons and two daughters, now all settled in the US.
