August 24 Maharashtra Bandh: Schools, colleges, offices, banks, markets closed? What will remain open, what shut?
Consequently on 24 August 2024, MVA announced a ‘Maharashtra Bandh’ protest against the alleged sexual abuse of the two nursery girls at the Badlapur school. All three parties Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP expressed their support for the bandh after massive streets protests at Badlapur, when thousands converged on the streets and railway tracks. Public transportation, hospitals and schools, which fall under the purview of the RBI rules, are mandated to remain open.
In Badlapur, demonstrators laid waste to railway lines following what they claimed was the rape of two four-year-old girls, by a male attendant at a nearby school.
What's closed and what's open during the Maharashtra Bandh?
The Maharashtra government is not backing the bandh, so movements like taxis and buses will be normal.
There is no indication that any hospitals will close on the day of the bandh, even in the OPDs.
First, all schools and colleges have been asked to remain closed. Second, all institutions that would be closed on Saturdays will be closed as usual.
Banks will not be functional on Thursday, 24 August, 2017 as this particular day is the fourth Saturday of the month, and as per RBI guidelines only second and fourth Saturdays are holidays for banks, along with Sundays, national and regional holidays.
